Sound

You need to use the right format with the right extension.
Sound formats and extensions:

AU/u-law      .au

AIFF/AIFC     .aiff  .aif
Wave/WAV      .wav
MPEG Audio    .mp2

Homer simpson's Doh! Is a .au file
Star trek door opening Is a .wav file
If your Browser doesn't support a format it will usually come up and ask where to save it.

To get a sound to automatically play when the page is opened, like when this page was opened, use {BGSOUND SRC="Name of file.type of ext"}. So I used this line {BGSOUND SRC="startrek.wav"} to create that sound upon opening.

Animation using GIF files

Animated GIF's Will work if your browser supports them (some of mine do some don't), this is the line used here in this example {IMG SRC="constr.gif" ALIGN=LEFT HSPACE=10}.
